Rabs will return to competitive action for the first time in a month on Saturday as they take on Thorniewood United in the West of Scotland Cup.

It’s been a frustrating few weeks for the Kirkintilloch side – as events have conspired to keep them off the park since their emphatic 4-0 league victory over Beith on September 15.

Rob Roy gaffer Jimmy Lindsay hopes that his squad will maintain their confident start to the season, spurred on by a series of friendlies to keep the players match fit.

The Rabs travelled to Lochee United on Saturday for an entertaining 5-4 win, which included confidence-boosting goals for all three starting midfielders.

Lindsay said: “We had a great run at the game and it was good to see the players getting goals.

“This weekend’s game will be tough, as all games against Thorniewood are, but we’ll hopefully get a good result.

“It’s good to get a competitive game before we start our Scottish Cup campaign the week after.

“Although the league has to be the priority it would be great to put a couple of cup runs together, particularly since we were knocked out early last year.”

Rabs take on Thorniewood United at Robertson Park on Saturday. Kick-off is at 2pm.

The team will also travel to Port Glasgow Juniors on Monday for a friendly, due to kick-off at 7pm.

Meanwhile, Bishopbriggs juniors side Rossvale FC notched up a fine 2-1 victory away to Benburb FC on Saturday in the West of Scotland Cup.

Manager Ian Gray said: “It was a good result because they’re a good side. We were two-up in four minutes then it was a bit of backs to the wall.”

This Saturday, Rossvale take on Vale of Leven at Petershill Park – kick-off at 2pm.
