Success for Cartha

More than 100 ex-players were in attendance for the annual lunch, and they couldn’t have picked a better day.

Tries came from Hollier (2), Williamson, Gillies (2) and Pilch. Stand-off Andi Black added four conversions.

Although Greenock scored first, they began to struggle as the Cartha forwards began to exert their power.

Pete Hollier was named man of the match for his double score effort.

Coach Gary Grant said: “The whole performance was a step up as Greenock had come off the back of some impressive victories.

“I am very happy with the attitude and commitment of the players and looking forward to taking on Howe of Fife on Saturday as they are the league leaders”.

While Cartha celebrated with players from the past, things were less jubilant at Braidholm after GHA fell 9-6 to Dumfries.

The pitch of the league leader, Park Farm, amounted to no more than a bog, neutralizing the attacking flair of both teams.

Murray Houston kicked both of GHA’s penalties, within the first 40mins.

GHA had to settle for a losing bonus point and despite the narrowness of the loss, this was GHA’s heaviest defeat of the season.
