Special VE Day programmes on Age UK's The Wireless - includes Angela Ripon programme

Angela Ripon joins The Wireless, the online radio station for the 55+ audience on VE Day, Friday  May 8, to present a programme called The Germ of an Idea which outlines how the whole idea of the NHS was formed after VE day in 1945.

Plus, a host of classic 1940s titles return to the airwaves with Music While You Work, Housewives Choice and Workers’ Playtime.

In Dollie’s War, Dorothy Griffiths (nee White) talks about her evacuation, the air raid shelter in the garden and rationing as we hear the top tunes of 1945.

Music will include classic songs from Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Perry Como and from these shores, Gracie Fields, George Formby and, of course, Dame Vera Lynn.
