2000 young athletes compete in primary Cross Country Championships

A RECORD 2,000 budding young athletes from 71 Primary Schools across South Lanarkshire took part in this year’s Cross Country Championships at Hamilton Palace Sports Ground on March 25.

There were individual prizes for first, second and third in each category and also area team prizes in each category with the first three teams being determined by the ranking of the area’s four best athletes.

Clydesdale wins came via Emily McNicol (P7 Girls); Ross Lyttle (P7 Boys) and Emily McNicol, Amy Watkins, Argyll Reid and Katie McIntyre (P7 Girls Team).

Gerry Campbell, general manager of event organisers South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture, said: “The cross-country event has been running now for over 10 years and has been growing from strength to strength.”
