2010 Carluke 5K and 10K race

TWELVE months after a bizarre stewarding mix-up caused the leaders to run a kilometre further than the other runners, there were no such problems at Sunday's Carluke Development Trust 10k road race.

Eritrean Tsegai Tewelde won the race — which started and finished at Loch Park Stadium — in a course record 30.04mins, pipping countryman and Shettleston Harriers team-mate Tsegezeab Woldemickael (30.07mins) into second place.

And Emanuel Hagos made it a one-two-three for Shettleston Harriers and Eritrea by finishing third in 30.55mins.

"It was a very exciting finish," said Carluke Development Trust president and race organiser Tom Sneddon.

First over-40 veteran home in this year's 10k race was Alan Ramage of Cambuslang Harriers in 34.33mins.

The women's race was won by Paula Wilson of Kilmarnock Harriers in 41.53mins, ahead of Motherwell AC's Clare Barr (44.08mins) and unattached Lisa Major in 44.24mins.

The 5k family run was won by talented young Law and District Amateur Athletics Club member Gary Grieve.

Bovis Lend Lease, who sponsored the 5k race, got a few laughs from runners and spectators alike by pulling their mascot around in a cart!
