A tangled web they weave

THE Spiders have been left with a mountain to climb to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Given the big news of the day, it was nothing short of fitting that Peterhead’s winner came in what could only be descibred as “Fergie time”.

A soft penalty just seconds from the end of injury time condemned Queen’s to defeat in the first leg of their play-off semi-final.

The 1-0 defeat at Hampden leaves QP on the backfoot when it comes to the second leg at Balmoor on Saturday.

The winner of the tie will travel to either Berwick or Methil on Wednesday, with the second leg of the final being in Peterhead or Glasgow on Sunday, May 19.

Andy Rodgers was the man to break Hampden hearts with his stoppage-time penalty in the second division play-off semi-final.

Although several players were rested, both Blair Spittall and Giuseppe Cpuano returned, from illness and suspension respectively.

The scoreline could have been worse had it not been for heroics from Spiders’ stopper Neil Parry, who snuffed out a series of clean cut chances.
