Ali (23), starred as Accies beat Dundee 2-1 last Saturday to maintain fifth place in the table. Not bad for a side who were the bookies’ favourites to be relegated before a ball was kicked in this campaign.

“Finishing in the top six is now the aim for Accies,” said Ali’s dad Alan, also of Carluke.

“I don’t think that had been the aim at the start of the season.

“The target back then was to reach 40 points and stay in the division.

“If Accies can continue with their excellent home form then they should be fine.”
