A boxer from Bishopbriggs is preparing to face a champion in one of the most important fixtures in the Thai boxing calendar.

Muay Thai fighter Andrew Primrose is training hard for what he describes as ‘the biggest match of his career’ when he takes on British champion Sam Jackson in Manchester on November 22.

Pundits have made much of the 22-year-old’s relative inexperience in comparison to his opponent - including the fact that he has had to move up a weight category in order to take Jackson on - but he says he’s not worried.

Andrew said: “Sam has fought double the matches I’ve had, but I’ve been working hard for this and it’s all about quality, not quantity.”

With seven wins out of seven fights, including three KOs, Andrew has been touted as one of the most exciting new faces emerging on the national scene.

Currently ranked number one in Scotland, he is tipped for the top in the superwelterweight division.

A consistent run of impressive performances have earned him a growing following in what is widely acknowledged as one of the most physically demanding martial art, even though he’s yet to pick up any belts.

But as the young fighter explains, a good fight is more important than a fancy result.

He said: “For me, it’s more about the opponent than the title.

“I’ve not had the opportunity to fight for any titles yet, but I’ve taken on three Scottish champions and beaten them all.”
