Andrew McGregor helps Scotland volleyball team beat the English

DESPITE being the youngest player on the court at just 16 years old, Carluke volleyball ace Andrew McGregor recently helped Scotland under-20s whitewash their English counterparts at Glasgow's Kelvin Hall.

Andrew, of East Law Farm, who stands 6ft 4'' tall despite his tender years, was just half a point away from winning Player of the Series in a two-game competition which saw the Scots romp home by three sets to nil on consecutive nights.

"I was really pleased with my performances," said Andrew, a fifth year pupil at Carluke High School.

"Playing in front of a big crowd of 300 people was amazing.

"There was a really good atmosphere from the very start, when the national anthem was played.

"It was magical to play in front of such a crowd.

"Having people cheering you on for every point gives you an indescribable feeling.

"Although there were a lot of long rallies, it ended up being two comfortable wins for us in matches which each lasted for one hour 45 minutes."

There was also a Carluke representative playing for Scotland under-20 women against the English ladies at the Kelvin Hall. Emma Clarkson, of Cameron Road, starred as the Scots were defeated 3-1 twice.
