Anglers reel in charity cash

THIS year saw a large field taking part in the third annual Magiscroft Fishery Community Charity Memorial Match to raise funds for good causes.

In the previous two years the funds went to Glasgow Sick Children and St Andrew’s Hospice, Airdrie. This year’s chosen charity was Marie Curie Cancer Care, a charity in which most of the community have come into contact with throughout the years.

Forty-five anglers fished this year’s match in the memory of anglers who were part of the community at the Condorrat fishery. Annual trophies were awarded in the names of former friends. There was also an auction where anglers and other local fisheries and tackle shops donated prizes resulting in a total of £1075 being raised for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Tommy Lauriston, Magiscroft Angling Club match secretary and organiser of the event, would like to thank all who donated and took part in what was another very successful charity event. Thanks also to all who assisted in the running of the event and to Magiscroft Fishery for donating the trophies.

The local fishery is now in its tenth year. It is a well established Scottish Course Fishing venue with a now well established community forum www.magiscroft.com/forum/ through which all the forms and levels of course fishing are catered for.

At Magiscroft there are beginners classes right through to internation al matches where anglers can go to learn or just fish the day away in a safe controlled environment that houses all the facilities required including care and shop which are both disability friendly.
