Ron Jack was unanimously elected as president of the club at the annual general meeting. He will take over from Ross Caven.

“Our aim must be to help the team win sufficient matches to ensure that we are challenging near the top of the league at the end of next season,” said Ron.

“My priority, along with the members of the general committee and every member and supporter of the club, is to do everything we can to allow Gus, his coaching team and the players, to perform to the very best of their abilities.”

The struggling Spiders enjoyed little success last season, finishing at the bottom of Scottish football’s fourth tier.

Former St Mirren boss Macpherson took over from Gardner Speirs in January.

Ron, who has supported the Spiders for more than 50 years, spent eight years as part of the club’s committee.

The new president, who will spend two years in the role, added: “From next season, the club will face challenges as great as any in our history. No matter our thoughts on the new league set up, we are where we are.”

“I hope my experience within the club, and my business background, will allow me to continue the development of our great organisation.”
