BA strike ruins Craig Storie Scotland under-15 football debut

CARLUKE High School pupil Craig Storie was due to be in Belgium this week, playing football for Scotland for the very first time in international under-15 challenge matches.

But the youngster (14), of Eastfield Road, Carluke, was left heartbroken when the strike by BA employees meant the trip was cancelled shortly before the squad was due to fly out from Glasgow Airport on Monday.

"Craig is totally devastated by this cancellation," said Carluke High pupil support teacher Janey Craig.

"There will be embarrassment for him coming into school this week, when everybody will be asking him why he's not in Belgium.

"He is itching to play for his country. We're still waiting to hear back from the Belgians as to whether or not this trip will be rearranged for a later date."

Craig, who plays domestically for Aberdeen under-14s, trains three or four times a week with this club and plays for them every second Sunday.

Janey added: "Football is Craig's life.

"He plays football in PE at Carluke High, but Aberdeen won't allow him to play for the school team for fear of him getting injured."

Craig had been due to play an international against the host country in Battice today (Wednesday) and another in Blegny on Friday.
