In truth Gavin Blackburn’s men needed a minor miracle to escape the drop zone as they had to win their final two games and hope that bottom side Hillhead-Jordanhill, who hadn’t won a game all season could defeat third from bottom Marr at the weekend.

But that didn’t make the pain of relegation to National League Division 2 any easier to take.

However, it wasn’t all doom and gloom for Biggar as their under-15 girls side became Scottish champions with Friday night’s stunning 55-5 victory over Community School of Auchterarder.

Lanark remain just above the West Division 3 drop zone following a 17-8 defeat by the Isle of Arran at the Racecourse.

Meanwhile, there were no football games this weekend with Lesmahagow Juniors top of the table clash with Bellshill and Carluke Rovers and Lanark United’s League Cup matches falling victim to the weather.
