Biggar Rugby Club retain top spot with bonus point win

Biggar’s third win on the spin saw them race into an early 14-0 lead courtesy of tries from Chris Mulligan and then Matthew Stewart, both converted by Conor Lavery.

The same player was then forced off with a nasty ankle knock sustained in an accidental collision with his team-mate Gregor Stewart!

Robbie Orr took over at stand off. Worse was to follow as captain Euan Sanderson was also forced to retire after a head knock, his replacement being Ryan Moffat.

Undeterred, Biggar maintained pressure on their hosts with Matthew Stewart scoring his second after the half hour mark following a good break by Carossi and a neat off-load from Orr.

Howe hit back with livewire scrum half Andrew Harley making the most of a blindside gap to sprint clear of the flailling Biggar cover to dot down under the posts for a try converted by Dylan Suttie.

In their next sortie to the Howe 22 Matthew Stewart took no time to drop a neat goal, this just before the fourth bonus point try which fell to No 8 Ross Jackson who ripped the ball from a Howe player before sprinting home from some 30 metres.

Unfortunately the conversion was missed. Now in some form of control, Biggar continued to press but were unable to add to their tally, the half-time score 27-7 in their favour.

Despite Lavery being sin binned for an early second half foul, Biggar added to their tally with a Ross Bradford try converted by Orr.

Rowan Stewart was the next to score, he rounding off a great breakout initiated by Robbie Orr. There was no conversion to this score.

Jackson then scored his second, converted by Moffat, before Bradford scored after an Orr kick.

Two late tries by Mulligan and Alan Warnock were converted by Moffat, before Sean Morrison’s converted score added some respectability to the scoreline for Howe.
