THE loudest cheer at Hartreemill for a decade greeted Biggar Rugby Club’s first win of the season, last Saturday’s 24-10 National League triumph over Hillhead Jordanhill.

Biggar’s first league win in nine attempts – following eight straight defeats – moved them onto five points and just two adrift of second bottom Hillhead.

Biggar took the lead on 16 minutes through winger Craig Parker, who rounded off a movement begun after Calum Taylor, Stuart Harrison, Conner and Colin Arthur had all made significant thrusts toward the Hill Jills line.

Biggar’s second score arrived following a Davy Reive grubber kick through the advancing HJ defence.

After Grant Owens and Arthur had been thwarted in their bids to cross the line, excellent passing created the space for Sullivan to breach the HJ defence for a good score. Conner was just wayward with the conversion but Biggar were again ahead at 10-3.

The home team rounded things off when Arthur fed Taylor to notch the all-important bonus point winning-score which was converted by Conner.

The result brought to an end the longest losing run in Biggar RFC’s short history and led to scenes of great celebration on the sidelines.
