Blue shirts stem white tide at schools Inters

SOUTHSIDE athletes raced in the dark blue of Scotland last weekend at the Schools International in Dublin.

The event, contested annually

between Scotland, England, Wales and All-Ireland, tends to be dominated by English athletes and this year was no exception.

But, amid the lily-white tide, Scottish teams distinguished themselves with two silvers and an individual bronze from Scottish National Champion Erin Wallace, of Eastwood High.

Part of the silver-winning Inter Girls’s team, Wallace was the only Scot, male or female, to make the podium and one of only two non-English runners to personally medal. Emily Crusher (Hutcheson’s Grammar) also helped her squad earn another team silver, racing home as third counter of six for Scotland’s Junior Girls.

Sarah Eunson (Hutchie) had an untypical day, finishing downthe field in the Inters, but can look foreward to the upcoming track season, after an outstanding winter’s work indoors at 800metres.
