Bobby Jenks reckons Dougie Arnott was his top discovery

TOP scout Bobby Jenks reckons that legendary Lanark-born striker Dougie Arnott represents the best acquisition he ever made for a football club.

Bobby — whose contribution to Scottish football over the past 40 years will be recognised at a testimonial dinner in Glasgow's Crowne Plaza Hotel on Saturday, October 9 — remembers fondly the day he secured Dougie's signature for Motherwell FC.

"Dougie Arnott was my best signing," Bobby said. "We only paid 1500 for him!

"The first I heard about Dougie's ability was when he had played for Motherwell Miners many years earlier. Robert Raeside, who used to work for the Miners, told me about Dougie but at the time I said I couldn't sign him because he was too young.

"Dougie later moved on to Blantyre and then Pollok and I went to see him play a couple of times."

Ironically, Fir Park — Bobby's workplace during three separate spells (including now) — was the venue as he watched Dougie play for Pollok in the 1985 Scottish Junior Cup Final.
