Butcher (23) won all six rounds against his 41-year-old opponent for a routine victory at Bellahouston Sports Centre.

“My coach had studied Tasimov and we were confident going into the fight,” Iain said. “I thought I would be too young and fresh for him and it was more than a comfortable win for me.”

Iain, who returned to the ring after 10 months out injured, hopes to take on the Commonwealth champion in his next fight in April.

“That fight could propel my career to bigger and better things,” he added.

Iain, whose overall record now stands at 13 wins and two losses, thanks his sponsors IHE Stainless Ltd, Bruce McCormack Lawyer and C and C MOT Station, Motherwell.

* Fellow Motherwell fighter Adam McKenzie lost in the third round of his flyweight contest against Brett Fidoe at Bellahouston.
