Local boxer Lee makes his debut

A TALENTED young boxer trained in Kilsyth has made his international debut.

Lee Ferns (16) from Bonnybridge is a member of the Kilsyth Golden Gloves Boxing Club.

Last weekend he was one of 17 young Scottish boxers to travel to Cork to face some of the best youth talent in Ireland.

Kilsyth coach Francie Connor said: “Lee put on a very good show but lost 9-6 to Caoimhin Hayes in what some people are calling a ‘hometown decision’. “Nevertheless we are proud that our club has now been represented in international competition and this will have been good preparation for Lee, who will be competing for Scotland in the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

“Lee is ranked fifth in the world for his category and will also be competing in June’s youth championships.”
