Braidholm youngsters get the call

GLASGOW’s under 18 squad has a strong representation from GHA, with five of the Braidholm club’s youngsters picked for the select side.

The squad of 23 has been selected after weeks of training and trials and GHA RFC is very proud to have such a strong representation.

Paul Tyler, GHA Academy Manager, told The Extra: “It is a real testament to the quality of coaching at the club and the environment we create that these boys have achieved such success.”

Andrew Goudie, GHA U18 Captain, said “We’ve all done well to get this far but the hard work really starts now. We all have to fight for starting places in the team and then work hard to win our games and try to impress the selectors.”

Club stalwart Zander McIlwham, who is now the club’s under 18 coach thinks the whole team are due credit.

He said: “The success of GHA U18s has definitely contributed to the selection success.The confidence they get from playing in a winning tea is a big factor.”

Thee U18 team are top of West Division 1 having won five out of five in the league.

The five GHA players in the Glasgow squad are Zander Gregor, Scott Plumridge, Andrew Goudie, Euan McKirdy and James Couper.

Also included in the squad is Max MacFarlane from Hutchesons’ Grammar School who is a previous member of the GHA Academy.
