Busy end to summer season for Kirkintilloch Olympians athletes

As the summer season comes to a close, athletes from Kirkintilloch Olympians have been making the most of the opportunities to compete in races across Scotland and further afield.

In Saltcoats, Kirkintilloch was represented in the North Ayrshire AC 10k race. Conor Woods led the team finishing in 44.04 to be 81st amongst the 500 participants. Behind, Pauline Younger finished in 52:41 and Gillian Phillips completed the team in 55:15 for 319th place.

At Stirling, some of the adults were taking part in the Scottish 10k championships. In a high quality competition first Olympian to cross the line was Graham McCabe in 34.32, ahead of Euan Craig (37.58). Gary Shaw and Gary Mitchell, making up the club team, ran well in a small group of runners, each completing the 6.2 miles in just over 40 minutes.

Robert Mahon travelled further to take part in the Great North Run, completing the half marathon distance in 1 hour 34 minutes, showing the value of being part of the Sunday social runs organised by the club.

This run is open to all local runners of any ability who wish to come along for a chat and run, for up to 90 minutes.

Runners meet at Kirkintilloch Leisure Centre at 8.30am on Sunday. No booking required, all are welcome.
