Carluke based horse Stonefield Flyer finishes second at Royal Ascot

Belstane Stables supremo Keith Dalgleish praised one of his horses, Stonefield Flyer, after the two-year-old finished second in a feature race at Royal Ascot.

In the Windsor Castle Stakes, the 16/1 shot Stonefield, ridden by Paul Mulrennan, was pipped at the post by the 9/4 favourite Frederick Engels, ridden by Johnny Murtagh.

However, for 28-year-old Keith it was a big step forward.

He said: “It’s definitely Stonefield Flyer’s biggest achievement. He was just beaten by a better horse on the day.

“I was pleased with the way he ran – he was just narrowly beaten; but he has a big future ahead of him.

“He’s only a two-year-old so he is only going to get better. I’m not sure if he’s going to get another outing this year because of his age but we will take our time and get the best out of him.”
