Carluke Cobras flag football team slither up the league

Carluke Cobras flag football team members, who play home matches at Carluke High School, have shown a fair amount of bite in this year’s national league.

The Cobras – led by Carluke joiner Jamie Doak – slithered into third place in the league table to qualify for the prestigious British finals, at Crystal Palace next month.

And Jamie (24), of Station Road, is hopeful there won’t be a sting in the tail for the squad when they compete against Britain’s best in front of thousands of spectators.

He said: “Our first game will be against Aberdeen, and if we win that we’re through to the semi-finals against the top English team.

“If we come through that we’ll probably have to beat an all-conquering Kirkcaldy side – who’ve won the British title for the past six years – in the final.

“Every one of them is big and strong and they’re all a bit older than us.

“But there is nothing to stop Carluke Cobras going all the way. Out of all the teams, we’ve been the one that has come closest to beating Kirkcaldy over the years.”
