This triumph – Rovers’ sixth win in a row – avenged their defeat suffered at Maryhill earlier in the season.

Carluke took the lead in spectacular fashion after just five minutes when Ian Watt’s free kick was lofted over the keeper’s head from 30 yards.

Mark Haddow’s headed ‘goal’ was disallowed for offside before Carluke doubled their lead when Mark Weir and Watt set up Gordon Murphy at the back post for 2-0.

Maryhill hit the bar with a second half free-kick and Rovers survived a sustained spell of pressure before adding a third goal on 73 minutes courtesy of Ryan Smillie’s low shot across the keeper.

Maryhill netted a consolation goal two minutes from full-time when a close range shot was netted after an initial attempt from much further out had been well saved by home keeper Johnny Grier.
