Carstairs Church team take on Dukla Pumpherston

CARSTAIRS Church minister Alan Gibson will let his feet do the talking from 2pm this Sunday, when he manages and plays for a Church Select team against a celebrity Dukla Pumpherston side.

Alan (38) can't wait for the chance to take on celebs including Solidarity politician Tommy Sheridan, ex-Rangers aces John McDonald and Dougie Bell, former Motherwell centre half Brian Martin and BBC pundit Chick Young (team captain).

"Everyone in the Carstairs team is really, really looking forward to this match," Alan said.

"A lot of planning and organisation has gone into it and the lads are really excited. We are very hopeful about our chances.

"I'm told that the Dukla Pumpherston guys are very good. They'll be a bit older than us, but will still be able to knock the ball about very nicely.

"It is not often you get the chance to play against guys who have plied their trade at the highest level.

"Chick Young plays left back for Dukla Pumpherston. So I want to make sure I'm playing right midfield for us, because I think I can take on Chick for pace!"
