Carstairs Junction’s Jennifer Gemmell impresses karate judges

DESPITE being under the intense pressure of trying to become a karate black belt, Carstairs Junction girl Jennifer Gemmell greatly impressed a panel of five judges during a grading spread across two and a half hours in Meadowbank.

Second year Lanark Grammar pupil Jennifer (13), successfully became a black belt after demonstrating all the moves she’d learned with Wado-Kai Karate Club at Lanark YMCA on Wednesdays.

Eleven-year-old Ally Ferguson of Newbigging – also passed with flying colours.
