Cartha and Craigs set for southside derby battle

Cartha were too much for Falkirk on Saturday

After last weekend’s 32-6 win against second place Falkirk, the Dumbreck side are now nine points ahead of their closest rivals.

Cartha coach Gary Grant is convinced his side can continue their current form against local rivals Whitecraigs.

He told ExtraSport: “We played the best game we’ve played all season. We stuck to our game plan and controlled possession.

“Whitecraigs always present a challenge. They have a big pack and a good set of backs. It’s a local derby which is always hotly contested but we have to stick to our game and not let that even it out.”

Cartha will be without fullback Ross Aitken for the trip to Whitecraigs, as he broke his arm in two places on Saturday. Last weekend, Ardrossan defeated Whitecraigs 34-15.

Meanwhile GHA return to National League action after a month hiatus as they face Watsonians at Braidholm.

GHA Captain Andy Henderson said: “If there is not that game at the end of the week it is difficult for the guys. Hopefully this week with something to focus on we can improve.

“It is a big incentive to finish our home campaign on a high and give something back to the supporters for supporting us.”

Both games kick-off at 3pm.
