City Club Manager Laura Montgomery told The Extra: “It is an incredible honour for us to receive such a prestigious award. We truthfully didn’t think we stood a chance given the calibre of performances by teams in Scotland this season.

“We were delighted just to be shortlisted down to the final three, along with the Glasgow Warriors and the Scotland Women’s Curling team.

“From a personal point of view, I am glad the efforts of our team and coaching staff have been recognised at the highest level.

“Sometimes those outside our club can feel that winning is easy, because we have made a habit of it over the last seven years in particular, but it most definitely is not easy. Each year, we work harder and harder to not sustain where we are at, but to improve.

“Our coaching staff challenge themselves and the players to reach new levels at every training session and hopefully this award gives credit to everything all members of Glasgow City have achieved.

“It is not simply our first team who make this happen, but every player and member of staff from our Under 9’s upwards.”

Meanwhile, a total of eight Glasgow City players headed off to Brazil this week with the Scotland national team to take part in a four team mini-tournament.
