Stanley – from Lifestyles Carluke – defeated Harry Smith Complex’s Andrew 17-4 in the final match of what was described by spectators as a “nail-biting” tournament.

Janis Stevenson, manager of Carluke Lifestyles and the Lanark-based Harry Smith Complex, said: “I was absolutely thrilled that two local bowlers reached the final.

“That was after a series of matches in earlier rounds which staff members watching the action said had been absolutely nail-biting. They were on the edge of their seats on numerous occasions.

“Stanley winning the final was absolutely marvellous, but the fact that our whole team of bowlers did so well was great as they all gave it their best shot.

“All of our players, winners or not, enjoyed a great day of competition.”
