“Angus was delighted to win a gold medal,” his proud mum Anne Marie told Gazette Sport.
“The 400m freestyle was tough because his opposition included a Chinese lad who had narrowly beaten Angus into second place in the 200m freestyle.
“But Angus managed to dig deep, go hell for leather and take first place after another close finish.
“It was a difficult race but it was fabulous.”
Anne Marie said that the Canadians had been “terrific hosts” during a trip which she, husband Jim and other children James and Annie treated as a family holiday.
