Coalburn bowler Greg McLaughlin wins British title

YOUNG Coalburn bowler Greg McLaughlin has capped an amazing year by captaining his country - and winning the British under-18 Indoor Singles title.

Sixteen-year-old Greg, a member of both Lesmahagow Bowling Club and Blantyre Indoor Bowling Club, won the title in a nail-biting tie-break situation after fighting back from a set down at the event, held at Stanley, near Newcastle.

It put the icing on the cake to a tournament which saw Greg captain the other nine Scotland bowlers.

The win brought to an end a year which saw Greg and pairs partner John Meikle retain their under-17 Scottish Pairs title at Ayr Northfield - the first time that has happened.

There was also a win in the Scottish Masters under-17 Indoor Championships, in Perth and Greg also captained a Scottish under-17 outdoor team when they faced a North of England under-25s side - with the Scots winning on that occasion.
