Coalburn’s Andrew Suckle is top pigeon fancier

A BIRD which Coalburn pigeon fancier Andrew Suckle (24), entered into Clydesdale Midweek Pigeon Racing Club’s third annual show got the judge into a right flap – but for all the right reasons!

For the pigeon belonging to plasterer Andrew, of Schoolhouse Avenue, was voted as overall winner at Tinto Sports Centre in the third annual club show featuring 451 birds.

“The competition was a tremendous success,” said club secretary Robert Robertson.

“Everybody thoroughly enjoyed themselves and the standard of the pigeons was first class.

“Andrew’s winning pigeon had recently flown 300 miles from Billericay to Coalburn.

“Andrew – who only joined our club in 2011 – was over the moon to win and had a good drink to celebrate. He keeps 24 pairs of pigeons and has been racing them for the past three or four years.”

Andrew’s pigeon has now qualified for the Supreme Champion class at the prestigious Blackpool Show of the Year in The Winter Gardens on January 18, 19 and 20.
