Cracking win for Kilsyth

KIRKINTILLOCH ROB ROY ....................... 1KILSYTH RANGERS ............................. 3

AN EXCELLENT win for Rangers at Adamslie on Monday evening means progress to the next stage of the competition is now almost certain unless Dunipace can overcome a nine goal deficit in the final game tonight (Wednesday).

This was one of the best displays from Rangers in recent times and put one over on their traditional rivals.

There were chances at both ends although either not taken or shots off target. Rangers came more into the game as the half progressed and in thirty six minutes Tullis sent Dolan away, he ran in and cracked a great shot to the net from around sixteen yards. Rob-Roy responded with a few attacks and Duke made another great save, turning the ball round the post. Rangers were in control now though, and just deserved to go in ahead at halftime.

It was Rangers who made all the running early in the second period; they made three good openings within the first few minutes. Rob Roy came right back into the game though when a snap shot by Diack from outside the box hit the base of the post and came off behind Duke to level matters. The game was hotting up now and it was not long before Rangers were back in the lead, Tullis collected the ball outside the home penalty area, rounded the keeper and stuck it home from fifteen yards.

Rangers were well on top now and had a few more chances although Rob Roy also had opportunities to come back. Francis Kelly replaced O’Neill, who had shown up very well and soon was in the thick of things. With just under 10 minutes remaining the result was put beyond dispute when Chris Reid, who had been threatening to score with headers all night, cracked in a shot from 12 yards for the third goal.

In almost the last minute Duke made another very fine save when Adam sent in a header from point blank range, but it was now much too late, Rangers had recorded their first win over their Premier league rivals for several years and fans went home very happy.
