Carluke’s John Cumming Stadium was the venue for an event which saw Commonwealth disciplines like long jump, javelin and shot putt interspersed with traditional competitions including flat races, egg and spoon contests and relays. There was also beat the goalie, hockey and skipping.

Crawforddyke head teacher Angela Gibson said: “There was an incredible sight when our 300 pupils paraded to the stadium from the school dressed in the colours of various Commonwealth countries and carrying banners and flags.

“We traditionally hold the event at the big field behind the school but we moved it to John Cumming Stadium to give us a bit more space.

“We wanted the children to experience competing in a proper sports stadium. The facilities were super and the staff were great.”
