Cumbernauld 10K fun will bring hundreds of runners to town

Cumbernauld will stage its biggest sporting event of the year on Sunday, September 20 as 600 runners take part in the 10K.

The event which draws runners from across Scotland also features 3K and 1K races plus the Victory Mile Walk.

Temporary road closures will also swing into play between 9.30am and 1pm.

Areas cordoned off include Atholl Drive around Broadwood Loch to Broadwood roundabout, Westfield Road to Deerdykes Roundabout, Mollins Road to Drumgrew Roundabout and Kirkintilloch Road to Blackwood East Roundabout.

Police officers will be on duty at key junctions and when it is safe to do so, vehicles will be allowed in and out of homes and businesses affected.

Meanwhile runners, walkers and spectators have been asked to park at nearby St Maurice’s High School.

NL Leisure’s Douglas Holmes who has helped organise the event said“Over the last few years, it’s been brilliant to see the popularity of these events grow.

“This year, it’s going to be better than ever so I’d encourage everyone to come along to Broadwood to support our runners and walkers and enjoy a great Sunday morning out.’’

Last year the Men’s Race was won by Robert Gilroy from Ronhill Harriers in Cambuslang who completed the course in 31 minutes 25 seconds.

The woman’s race was won by East Lothian’s Sarah Louise MacIsaac in 38 minutes and 48 seconds.
