Cumbernauld 10k kids pick up trophies

TWO Cumbernauld schools received trophies for their participation in the recent Cumbernauld 10k event.

A total of 24 children at Cumbernauld Primary School lined up for the 1k runs – the highest number of participants from any primary school – while the 21 pupils from St Maurice’s High School who took part in the 3k events gave the biggest number of secondary school entrants.

Event organisers, North Lanarkshire Council, North Lanarkshire Leisure Ltd, NHS Lanarkshire and Campsies Centre Cumbernauld Ltd, presented trophies to both schools to congratulate them on their achievements.

North Lanarkshire Provost Jim Robertson, who officially started the races at the event on Sunday, September 9, said: “Congratulations to all those pupils from both schools who took part in the runs and supported the Cumbernauld 10k event. We had an excellent turnout for the 1k and 3k runs with over 370 children coming along on the day and it was great to see their enthusiasm for running.

“All our schools in North Lanarkshire work to encourage children to take part and enjoy sport as part of a healthy lifestyle, and this event is a fun way of introducing them to running.”
