Cumbernauld pick up win to start off the season

Cumbernauld 29Bute 1st XV 7

CUMBERNAULD 2nd and 3rd XV successfully kicked off the new season with a win in their pre-season challenge match against 1st XV opposition, Bute.

With it being a squad game, there were numerous changes throughout the game, but Cumbernauld showed control thoughout the contest and came away with a comfortable 29-7 victory. The try scorers on the day were Meenagh, C. Fraser, McDonald and Reid, with the effort and cohesion shown by the squad being as important as the result.

Cumbernauld have this season entered both their 2nd and 3rd XV teams in the Reserve Leagues, resulting in full fixture cards for both teams. The first league game for the 2nd XV is away at Greenock on September 4, whilst the thirds kick off the week earlier with an away fixture at Uddingston.

If you're interested in playing rugby at Cumbernauld, come along to training on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7pm at the playing fields in Condorrat. Whether you've played before or not, we have teams to accommodate your experience.

Most of the positions in both squads are now filled, but the club are on the lookout for a couple of players. Rugby is a team game that requires people of varying sizes and abilities – big or small, fast or slow. The important things are having a determination to succeed, a willingness to put up with a few bumps and bruises, and a desire to learn both as an individual and as part of a team. Why don't you give it a try?
