Cumbernauld schoolkids take part in handball festival

Almost 100 children from Cumbernauld Primary School and St Andrew’s Primary School recently took part in a handball festival at Tryst Sports Centre.

Organised in partnership between North Lanarkshire Leisure Ltd, North Lanarkshire Council and Tryst 77 Handball Club, the festival featured 12 teams consisting entirely of Primary 5 pupils from the
two schools.

Despite only being introduced to handball last month and receiving a short four-week introduction to the sport, the kids threw themselves into the festival and didn’t stop running, jumping, passing and shooting
all morning.

The event was a big success with the boys and girls displaying all their skills and what they had learned and impressing the referees and coaches of Tryst 77 who officiated on the day.

Thanks to the two schools for taking part and to the teachers who were extremely supportive and enthusiastic throughout. Thanks also to Greg Murray, Kayla Wallace, Greg McFarlane and Daniel Russell for their support.

Player of the Year Awards

The club also recently held its Player of the Year night at Cumbernauld Rugby Club with awards for the mini section, juniors, women
and men.

It was a good season for the club with the juniors winning the Scottish Cup and the women and men both winning the league and cup double.
