Cumbernauld Taekwondo Club celebrates 30 years

THIS month sees the Cumbernauld Taekwondo club celebrating 30 years of practice. The club started in September 1980 by Grandmaster T. K. Loh and was the first and only Taekwondo club in Cumbernauld.

The club has since produced many practitioners, some of whom have competed in the recent WTF World Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark, Championships in the Far East as well as Korea.

The members also had opportunities to train under eminent grandmasters, Korean national players including Moon Dae Sung, Olympic Heavy Weight gold medallist in Greek Olympic Games.

From Cumbernauld, Grandmaster T. K. Loh formed the Traditional Taekwondo Association (TTA) which now has affiliations from all over the country stretching from Inverness to St Austell as well as chapters in Ireland. This includes six universities. Currently, some clubs in Germany as well as Greece are requesting affiliations.

The club celebrates this history by presenting Alex McGreevy with a presentation of letter of appreciation from the Kukkiwon (World Taekwondo Headquarters).

Those who are interested in joining the club can attend at Glencryan School, Greenfaulds on Mondays and Wednesdays at 7pm or visit the website at www.tta-taekwondo.co.uk
