CUMBERNAULD United ended their Sectional League Cup journey with a disappointing result against lowly Rossvale at Adamslie Park, Kirkintilloch, last Wednesday.

On a dreadful night of torrential rain the Cumbrnauld team struggled to play to form and although they were the dominating outfit in the second half, failed to convert their superiority into goals.

United made a great start and took the lead in the sixth minute when, from a Paul McDonald corner, Darren O’Donnell headed past the Rossvale keeper.

Six minutes later, however, the scores were level when Dylan Dasty saw a speculative shot elude Mark Quinn in the United goal.

At this stage the game was pretty even, both sides missing chances until, on the half-hour mark, Paul McDonald shot from 25 yards and the ball slipped under Andy Moran in the Rossvale goal.

Just on the interval the Bishopobriggs team equalised with a fine goal, full-back Alessio Fedi giving Mark Quinn no chance with a cracking left-foot shot.

The second half failed to excite the few brave fans. United did most of the pressing and went near with headers from Craig Hill and Danny Boyle, but the contest ended – in near darkness – with honours even.

CUMBERNAULD UNITED: Quinn, Hayton, Petrucci, Kerr, Hill, Brown, Borland, Boyle, McLaughlin, McDonald, O’Donnell. Subs: Sloss, O’Halloran, Stewart, Hanlon and Allan.
