Giving away a penalty then a goal just three minutes from the finish saw Rabs lose 3-2 to Cumnock at Adamslie.

Gaffer Stewart Maxwell admitted that poor defending is letting the side down, but said they didn’t deserve to get beat.

He said: “We were very disappointed to lose a goal in the last minutes. In the first half we were the better team and in the first 20 minutes took control.

“At half-time I said to the players the game was in their hands and if they could score another goal they could put them to bed.

“In the second half we gave away a penalty and a cheap header. Basic defending was killing us. Every error we’re making, we’re getting punished.

“We were 2-1 down, but got back in the game and equalised with 10 minutes to go. It was horrendous defending for Cumnock’s final goal.

“Against a team like that, we can’t make these errors. The players are putting in lots of effort and endeavour.

“It was disappointing for them, they didn’t deserve to get beat. It could have been 3-2 to us.

“Every week one wee error is costing us.

“It’s disappointing for the supporters who came out in force.”

Maxwell hopes Rabs will get back to winning ways this weekend with a league match against Glenafton.
