Cup cheer for Glasgow ladies

North Lanarkshire Provost Jim Robertson held a civic reception to mark the women’s Scottish Cup Final at Broadwood Stadium.

Glasgow City triumphed with the only goal of the game against Hibernian in a keenly contested final on Sunday, November 17.

The win by the Glasgow side helped secure them the domestic ‘treble’.

Provost Robertson said: “Women’s football is really on the ascendancy at the moment and this has been highlighted by some tremendous recent performances by the national team in the World Cup qualifying as they attempt to reach the 2015 finals in Canada.

“And winners Glasgow City have put in some heroic performances in this year’s Champions League on their run to the last 16 of the competition.

“Both finalists have been in terrific form during this Scottish Cup campaign and no more so than in
the semi-finals in defeating Glasgow giants Celtic and Rangers.

“The final was a fantastic spectacle and both teams contributed to really entertaining match.”
