Cyclists tug at leaders’ jerseys in ScottishPower road race

This Sunday, Scottish Cycling’s stars of the future will be vying for the glory of the ScottishPower green jersey, and for victory on the day.

Glasgow Riderz’ prospect Georgia Ferry will hope to keep hold of the jersey in the Youth B girls category while her teammate Jack Cruden will be fighting off competition from Discovery Junior Cycling club’s prolific athlete Alfie George in the Youth B boys.

Imani Pereira-James, a fellow Glasgow Riderz youngster, will hope to snatch the green jersey from the grips of series leader Elena McGorum from Peebles Cycling Club in the Youth C girls category, while Dunblane’s Callum Reid — a Rock and Road Cycles racer — will be competing to keep his Youth C boys leader’s jersey.

Among the top performers bidding to be top dog in the Youth A Boys are Stephen Dent (currently sitting second in the leaderboard) and Alexander MacRae from Speedflex Racing team.

Bob McFarlane, ScottishPower National Youth Racing Series Events Officer for Scottish Cycling, added: “It will be an extremely challenging race on another busy day for Scottish cycling, with the national championship road race taking place in Ayr on the same day.

“These races give our young athletes a platform to compete with each other and develop as cyclists. It’s a great opportunity and it couldn’t happen without the support of ScottishPower, who have helped us grow the sport significantly for youngsters in this country.“
