Darren Smith fighting fit for Ross County

LANARK-born football ace Darren Smith is aiming to put his injury woes behind him in the forthcoming weeks, just in time for his side’s post-winter fixture congestion.

Smith, a former Motherwell forward who was raised in Carluke, signed for first division Ross County last summer after coming through the youth ranks at Fir Park.

The ex-Carluke High School pupil said: “In a way, all of the postponed fixtures have been good for me.

“With a lot of games being called off, it is likely that they will be rescheduled during February and March, which is when I should be back playing.

”From a selfish point of view, this will give me an opportunity to play more.”
