Debut girls off to strong start in league fixture

LAST weekend Giffnock Soccer Centre’s under 13 girls team opened their league campaign with a win over Erskine Youth FC.

Having started up in 2012, this is the girls’ first foray into league football.

This season, they will line up against established girls teams including giants Celtic and Glasgow Girls.

The club has more than 50 girls from P2 to P6 ages, as well as 20 girls from P7-S2.

Coach Bernard Airlie told ExtraSport: “We are keen to grow their girls section into what they hope will be the biggest in the country.

“They have places for girls who either wish to play in teams or who just to come along and train during the week.

“The u13 team are particularly keen to recruit a goalkeeper, born in either 2001 or 2002.”
