Duffy’s clearout at Clyde

NO fewer than 15 players have departed Broadwood in the last week as manager Jim Duffy’s cull of the squad that finished bottom of the third division got underway.

Jordan Allan, Graham Girvan, Ally Park, Neil McGowan, Ricky Waddell, Hadyn Cochrane, Connor Stevenson, Stuart Mills, John Stewart, Willie Sawyers, Charlie Millar and Aleksandrs Gramovics have all departed, with loan signings Bryn Halliwell and Jamie McCluskey returning to their clubs.

Alan Lithgow rejected an offer to stay and so will follow the majority of his former team mates out of the exit door.

So far, only four of last year’s players have re-signed - JC Hutchison, John Sweeney, Iain Gray and Gavin Brown - while Pat Scullion, on loan from Stenhousemuir, looks set to stay for another season.

Duffy said: “There are some of the squad from last year who are still considering offers to stay. We’ve started looking for new players which is obviously a challenge, but it’s about getting the balance right.

“We want to get the majority together for the start of pre-season training on June 21 to get the fitness right.”

Meanwhile, top scorer Marc McCusker impressed on trial at League One side Hartlepool, but Duffy hasn’t given up hope that he might stay on at Broadwood.

He added: “I’m keen for him to stay but if he wants to take the opportunity to play at a higher level we’ll wish him all the best.

“There’s still a deal here for him that he’s considering, it’s a case of waiting to see what decision he makes.”
