Rabs showed their intentions as early as the second minute with Hunter heading an Easton corner kick inches wide. The inevitable opening goal came in the ninth minute when an Easton cross broke to Bradley to fire past Thistle keeper Todd.

Rob Roy continued to pour forward and only a fine stop by Todd prevented Diack from scoring. The visitors doubled their lead in the 15th minute when, from a Lindsay corner, Diack netted from close range.

Rabs continued to surge forward, with Bradley and Diack sending efforts wide of the target. Then, after a period of sustained pressure, Diack met a perfect Hunter cross to hammer home his side’s third in the 22nd minute. Two minutes later Lindsay made it number four with a volley from the edge of the penalty box.

Thistle pulled a goal back in the 23rd minute. Stewart’s corner was headed clear by Meechan, but the ball was returned into the goalmouth to be headed home at the back post by Lunan.

The visitors were now encamped in the Burghead half and only a couple of good saves from Todd prevented Chic Connolly from increasing his side’s lead.

Rabs’ fifth came in the 38th minute when, from a clever passing move involving Hunter, Diack and Connolly, Easton was on hand to knock the ball home.

Diack completed his hat-trick in 41 minutes when he clinically despatched a Bradley cross into the net. Then a minute before the break Lindsay headed home an Easton cross to make it seven.

Rabs began the second half the way they ended the first – by scoring goals.

They made it 8-1 in the 49th minute. Todd spilled a Meechan shot and the ball fell to Hunter who rammed a shot into the net.

Todd then made an outstanding block from Diack.

The ninth goal came in the 52nd minute when Meechan connected with a Bradley assist to give the Thistle keeper no chance.

With Rabs playing silky passing football the Moray side were by now chasing shadows and it was no surprise when Diack notched up the 10th goal in the 71th minute – heading a Connolly cross past Todd.

The Jags were reduced to ten men in the 83rd minute when Ross was shown a straight red card for a dangerous tackle on Chic Connoly in the penalty box.

Connolly made an expert job with the spot-kick for number 11 to complete the rout in what was a one-sided contest.

Rob Roy: Robertson, C Connolly, McVey, K Connolly, Henderson, Bradley, Lindsay, Meechan (Frye 63), Hunter (Ohakam 73), Diack, Easton (McLachlan 63). Unused Sub: Brown.
