Emily McNicol wins Scottish Schools Pentathlon Championship

CARLUKE teenager Emily McNicol defied atrocious wet and windy weather conditions to become under-17 Scottish Schools Pentathlon champion at Grangemouth on Saturday.

Emily (15), of Glenshee Court, excelled in hurdles, shot putt, long jump, high jump and 800m to win comfortably.

“It was a very good performance by Emily,” said Lesley. “The weather was horrendous, with a strong wind all day and constant rain. To get the result she did in such poor conditions was fantastic.

“Emily and the other athletes did really well to keep plodding on despite the weather.”

* Fellow Carluke athlete Rachel Hunter (12) won bronze in the S1 triathlon (high jump, shot putt and 600m).
