Euan Watson wins Lanarkshire Badminton Championships

LANARK’S Euan Watson returned to action after a week out with shingles to win a top badminton tournament at Ravenscraig Sports Facility in Motherwell.

The 16-year-old Lanark Grammar pupil, of Hazelbank, won three rounds at the Lanarkshire Area Schools Badminton Association (LASBA) Secondary School Championships.

“Euan had had shingles and was also studying for his prelim exams,” said his proud mum Louise. “It was hardly ideal preparation for playing in Motherwell.”

Ironically, Euan’s final opponent Robert Dunn – the defending champion – had also just returned to playing after undergoing a back operation.
