Eyes may be on CL but City still on winning form

Glasgow City extended their SWPL advantage to 15 points clear, with a 2-1 win over Rangers at windy Petershill Park.

Rangers took the lead on 36 minutes, when a shot from Erin Cuthbert took a deflection and outwitted City keeper Niki Deiter.

Within 60 seconds, City were back on level terms as Fiona Brown netted at the near post following an Emma Black cross.

Captain Black popped up on 68 minutes to score the winner as her shot went in off the post.

Commenting on the win, Eddie Wolecki Black said, “We have experienced it in the past when everyone’s eyes are fixed on the Champions League.

“But we had to respect the league and we put out a strong side and, whilst it wasn’t a free flowing performance, we certainly battled and made sure we got the three points.

“What is particularly pleasing is that as Champions even although we didn’t play well, we still ground out the win, and after having already won the title that is testament to the players.”
